"I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to her child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." - John 16:21-22

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." - John 15:1-2
There's so much to unpack in the grapevine analogy...

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.'" - John 14:6-7
Here's the thing...you can't know God unless you know Jesus. It's that simple. His words, not mine.

Sorry for the 4-day hiatus...back at it tomorrow. But check this out for now, if you haven't seen it already...pretty powerful stuff.

"...so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him." - John 13:4-5
I don't think that there's another passage in the entire bible that hits me more than this one does. This destroys me, encourages me, disgusts me, and fuels me in so many ways...good and bad. It always has. It always will.

"Mary came in with a jar of very expensive aromatic oils, anointed and massaged Jesus' feet, and then wiped them with her hair..." - John 12:2-3
I'm not going to lie...this weirds me out a little bit. And don't play like you'd be cool with this if it happened to you tomorrow night at dinner. It would freak you out too.

"The high priests and Pharisees called a meeting of the Jewish ruling body. 'What do we do now?' the asked. 'This man is performing many miraculous signs. If we let him go on like this, pretty soon everyone will be believing in him and the Romans will come and remove what little power and privilege we still have.' Then one of them - it was Caiaphas, the designated Chief Priest that year - spoke up, 'Don't you know anything? Can't you see that it's to our advantage that one man dies for the people rather than a whole nation be destroyed?'" - John 11:47-50
It's so easy to make it all about us.

"If I don't do the things my Father does, well and good, don't believe me. But if I am doing them, put aside for a moment what you hear me say about myself and take the evidence of the actions that are right before your eyes. Then perhaps things will come together for you, and you'll see that not only are we doing the same thing, we are the same - Father and Son. He is in me, I am in him." - John 10:37-38
John 10 is a chapter of huge importance...it's where Jesus reveals his deity, says that he and God are one, and confirms what many had suspected...that he is the Messiah. And there's so much theologically here...there's no way I can tackle it in a few clumsy paragraphs.

"He replied, ' I know nothing about that one way or the other. But I know one thing for sure: I was blind...I now see.'" - John 9:25
There is so much power in simplicity.
